Let's know the meaning and history of Holika Dahan.  The festival of Holika Dahan gives the message that God is always present to protect his unique devotees.
Holi is one of the most spectacular festivals celebrated in India.  Like Diwali, this festival is also considered as a festival of victory over good and evil.  Holi also has mythological significance for Hindus.  The most prevalent about this festival is the story of Prahlada, Holika and Hiranyakashyap.  But not only this, many other stories of Holi are also prevalent.  In the Vaishnava tradition, Holi is considered a symbolic formula of Holika-Prahlada's story.

Holika Dahan rules according to scriptures

It is considered Holashtak from Falgun Shukla Ashtami to Falgun Purnima, in which auspicious works are forbidden.  Holika-Dahan is done on the full moon day.  For this mainly two rules should be kept in mind -

 1. First, there should not be 'Bhadra' on that day.  Another name of Bhadra is also Vishti Karan, which is one of the 11 Karanas.  One Karana is equal to half of the date.

 2. Secondly, Purnima should be Pradoshkal-Vyapini.  In simple words, the full moon date should be in the three Muhurtas after sunset on that day.

Legend of Holika Dahan

According to the Puranas, when the demon king Hiranyakashyap saw that his son Prahlad did not worship any other God except 'Vishnu', he became enraged and finally ordered his sister Holika to take Prahlad in his lap and sit in the fire, because Holika  Had the boon that fire could not harm him.  And Holika sits on fire to kill Prahlada with Prahlada.  But on the contrary, Holika was burnt to ashes and nothing happened to the devotee Prahlada.  In memory of this incident, there is a law to perform Holika Dahan on this day.  The festival of Holi gives the message that in the same way, God is always present to protect his unique devotees. Not only this, but many other stories of Holi are prevalent.

History of Holika Dahan

It is also mentioned in the 300-year-old inscription found in Ramgarh, located near the Vindhya mountains.  Some people believe that on this day Lord Krishna killed a demon named Putana.  Gopis played Holi with them in this happiness.
